Welcome to the first adjectives subsection which deals exclusively with compound adjectives. There are currently 7 such worksheets with more coming soon. Let’s look at a sample worksheet from this category. This worksheet uses the game dominos to help students practice forming compound adjectives. All the materials and directions are included. For the best results, make sure that students are confident using compound adjectives and indicate what acceptable combinations are so that students cannot simply play whatever dominos they have and form illogical combinations. For more advanced students, alter the rules so that whenever a compound adjective is formed, the student whose turn it is must make a full sentence using it. Remember that this is just one subsection of adjectives so if you need to broaden your search, look in the main adjectives section of the site.

GRAMMAR TIP: What Are Compound Adjectives?
A compound modifier (also called a compound adjective or a phrasal adjective or adjectival phrase) is a compound of two or more attributive words: That is, more than one word that together modify a noun. Compound modifiers are grammatically equivalent to single-word modifiers, and can be used in conjunction with other modifiers. Despite the common names "compound adjective" and "phrasal adjective", the constituent words need not be adjectives. Combinations of nouns, determiners, and other parts of speech are common (man-eating and one-way). The punctuation of compound modifiers in English depends on their grammatical role. Attributive compounds – modifiers within the noun phrase – are typically hyphenated, whereas the same compound used as a predicate will typically not be. Compound adjectives, like normal adjectives, modify noun phrases. Grammatically, there is no difference between hot metal and white-hot metal – the latter is a compound adjective because it is made of two words.
