Taking a break to color is sometimes just what students need.
With older learners, coloring is not generally considered a good use of class time but with younger students arts and crafts are important too. Asking students to quietly color in class is not an ESL activity but you can incorporate English into the coloring activity. Since students are not writing at this stage, coloring pages and simple worksheets give students the chance to become comfortable with holding and using writing utensils. This will increase their confidence when it comes to having to write later on in their studies.
