The ability to describe something is an important aspect of English language learning so there are 270 'describing things' worksheets available to help students develop this skill. A student that is adept at providing descriptions will have the ability to carry on a conversation even without knowing the precise vocabulary words he or she wants to use. An example of this might be if a student is talking about cleaning out the attic but has forgotten or never learned the word attic. The student can describe a typical attic and explain its location within the house and still be able to clearly convey his or her meaning. A fun group activity that helps students practice this is posted here. On his or her turn, a student must choose a card and try to get group members to say the word on the card without saying the word and three other related words. This is a challenging and fun activity for intermediate students. You should feel free to edit or add cards and even change the rules of the game to suit your class.
