Welcome to the section of the site that covers office related topics such as important vocabulary, completing applications, and telephone etiquette. There are 39 worksheets available on this page and they are all free and easy to download just like all the material here on Busy Teacher. This office worksheet was designed with intermediate learners in mind. It is called “The Office Party” and is an excellent role play activity especially for adult learners. There are only eight character cards included but you should be able to create others if your class size is a little larger. Consider having students trade cards from time to time and maybe work in pairs for one or two minutes at a time instead of mingling since this will give the exercise more structure.
Business English and adult learners will benefit the most from this topic. There is very little need to include it in lessons with other types of students. Depending on the level of your learners you can talk about very basic office related topics to more complex ones such as company structure and policies. When discussing this topic allow students to talking about their own personal experiences and describe their daily routines, responsibilities, and working environment. This will give them a lot of speaking practice and since students can usually explain their situation very well, learners will be able to learn new vocabulary and expressions from one another.
