Students need to not only be able to read the high frequency Outlaw Words (sight words); they also need to be able to spell these phonetically irregular words. The Outlaw Words Spelling Assessment is a uniquely designed spelling dictation assessment of the 108 highest frequency sight words. Students write out the story dictated by their teacher. The teacher corrects the 108 spellings and records the misspelled words on a recording matrix (included) for simple progress monitoring.
A natural for Response to Intervention, this assessment is but one component of the comprehensive Teaching Spelling and Vocabulary series-five levels of integrated spelling-vocabulary instruction. Also check out the comprehensive TSV Spelling Assessment on this site that tests all of the basic K-3 spelling patterns.
