On the first day of class, have students complete a short questionnaire that assesses their learning styles. For example, ask questions such as “Do you prefer to hear directions or see directions?” “Do you prefer reading or doing hands-on activities?” Ask about ten questions. Collate the answers after class to find out if more students in the class are visual or kinesthetic learners, for example.

 

This activity is helpful for the teacher to find out not only what the whole class’s overall preferred learning styles are but also those of individual learners, important information in preparing lessons.
