At the end of class, have students work together to plan a dinner party of the characters or real people that appeared in their reading that day. Who would they invite? Why? Who should sit next to whom, and who shouldn’t sit together? Why? Have students work In groups to plan the guest list and seating arrangements.

With this method, students are practicing group work and speaking skills as well as extending their knowledge of the text in discussing the traits of the characters in their reading and how they relate to being dinner guests and table partners.
