This is a warmer or filler. You need two markers of different colors and a board to write on.

Divide students into two groups and name them according to the colors of the markers (“blue group” and “red group”). Have the teams identify a spokesperson. Write a series of blanks on the board that corresponds to some language that’s been used in the classroom recently. If the language is a phrase, don’t separate the blanks but write the number of words below (“3 words”). Flip a marker onto the floor. The colored end points to the team that will go first. The team decides on a letter (they must all agree), then the spokesperson announces their choice. Use the team color to write in all instances of the guessed letter. If none, write the guessed letter in a “used letter bank” at the top of the board and shift to the other team. When the blanks are all filled in, count the colored letters and add to the tally for each team. The other team goes first next time.

Examples: for recent lessons on money management, I used "endorse the back", "interest rate", "monthly budget"
