This is a reading activity about a newspaper article, which tells us the story of a hospital cleaner who got fired for speaking her native language in the workplace. It's surprisingly a good way to make students read, discuss the vocabulary and talk. There are also some questions about this issue for discussion. You can make them work in pairs or groups, it's really up to you!
What I did in my class and it worked very well was to divide the students into 2 groups: one had to defend the hospital and the other had to claim that this woman's dismissal was unfair. They had to come up with arguments to defend the opinion I "forced" them to have. I thought it'd be a disaster, but it was great!
