This seasonal worksheet is called 'Summer Worksheet: August Bulletin Boards' and was kindly introduced by Scholastic, also available for free at their website. It is a great 4-page printout with multiple ideas on various bulletin boards and how you can use them in class to encourage kids to strive for better results, or to show everyone's appreciation for their achievements.
The first template presented suggests using watermelon slices from construction paper for writing students' names and adding them to the class bulletin board when particular accomplishments are reached. Give out real watermelon seeds and let kids stick them to their slice, when they have achieved something. A watermelon party will be more than welcome by all students, when each of them reaches a predetermined number of seeds.
Another template allows you to build an extra-large slice of watermelon with student names written on black paper shaped as seeds. This may also be a cute way of welcoming students back to school if classes start in August.
The third template offers the shape of a footptint, to write a student's name on it and display as a sticker together with the best students' works on the classboard. The footprint templates can be also used in matching activities, if you use 'right' and 'left' patterns, - be it mathematical problems or word match, or books and authors, etc.
As an addition, there is also 'My Watermelon Book' template included into the worksheet, for kids to cut it out as per the lines, color and fill in with their summer stories or field trip impressions.
