May Activities
This May worksheet is called 'May Worksheet: May Activities' and was kindly provided by Scholastic, and can be downloaded from their website. It is a two-pager with funny rhymes to read and learn by heart about May and some holidays that happen this month, and with detailed instructions for a teacher on how to organize a class flower and plant show.
Students are encouraged to get familiar with common garden plants by reading various materials from gardening books or encyclopedias, or by participating in a discussion with an invited gardener or horticulturist. Children can bring flowers and plants to class which they grew at home. The activity can be organized closer to Mother's Day, and parents can be invited to participate and vote in the show. The most popular plant (or the one that received most votes) can be announced a winner and the kid could get a reward (certificate or ribbon).
The second part of the worksheet is dedicated to Cinco de Mayo holiday and what a teacher can organize for students to enjoy a lesson about Mexico. They are offered to make a colorful pinata as part of the celebration.
